New Delhi, September 4, 2026: Warner Bros. Discovery will shut down the standalone discovery+ app and website in India on November 3, 2026, ending the service as a direct subscription platform in the country. The company stopped taking new subscriptions from September 3 through both its own channels and outside partners as it begins closing the service in stages.
Current monthly subscribers will continue to use discovery+ until the end of the billing period they have already paid for. Auto-renewals will stop from October 3, after which monthly plans will end once the active cycle is complete.
Annual users will follow a different process. Customers whose yearly plans expire between October 3 and November 3 will be able to watch content until the normal expiry date, but the subscription will not renew. Those whose annual plans remain active after November 3 will receive a pro-rated refund for the unused part of their subscription.
The closure of the app does not mean discovery+ content will disappear from India. Warner Bros. Discovery plans to continue offering its programmes through partner platforms rather than through a separate app.
Viewers will still be able to find discovery+ content on services such as Amazon Prime Video Channels, JioTV+, JioTV, Tata Play Binge, Dish TV VZY and Playbox TV. The company has not yet shared a full list showing how individual shows will be divided across these platforms or whether pricing will differ after the shutdown.
Warner Bros. Discovery has also not given a detailed public reason for ending the standalone service in India. However, the decision follows similar changes made in other international markets.
The company has already reduced or ended standalone discovery+ operations in countries including Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Brazil, Turkey and Canada. In some markets, content has been moved to partner services, while in others it has been combined with Warner Bros. Discovery’s larger streaming platform, Max.
For Indian users, the main change is therefore in how discovery+ content will be accessed, rather than the complete removal of the content itself.
